Cattle Drives

We invite you to join us on a mini-cattle drive with your own horse.

We have so many requests to join us moving cattle but not everyone has a whole week for a full blown cattle drive. So we are specializing in shorter one or two day mini-cattle drives. These take place in the 20,000 acres of Black Hills forest permit and involve rounding up and moving the cattle herd from one summer pasture to a new pasture. These pastures are several miles apart, so you still get plenty of riding done.

The mini-cattle drive is not a grueling 4 day non-stop full fledged ‘get em’ back to the ranch’ by night fall type of adventure, but on the other hand, it’s not for cry-babies, sissies, Momma’s girls and boys or high-maintenance types.  You just need to be able to ride a couple hours comfortably. We can stop and stretch our legs every so often and we’ll bring our lunches.

This is by special arrangement and reservation. It can be a one day or two depending on how much you love the adventure. If you have always dreamed of trying your hand at ‘cowboying’ this would be a great introduction. $200 per horse and rider/per day. Minimum of 2 riders a day.

'So tighten up yer cinch! This adventure ain’t fer the feint-hearted or weak kneed. There’s no phone, no fax no Wi-Fi….just you, yer horse, endless vistas and brilliant stars at night.'

  • If you have watched the ‘City Slickers’ movie more that twice, you may be a candidate for our mini-cattle drives.
  • If you sleep with your boots on, you may be a candidate for our mini-cattle drives.
  • If your perfume or aftershave has a certain alfalfa or fresh mown hay smell to it, you may be a candidate for our mini-cattle drives.

Anyway, enough of that, you get the idea. This is available to anyone with their own horse whether staying here on the ranch or staying elsewhere.  We can meet you for breakfast and then head out from there.
