The UX Ranch has two Simple Country Bunk Houses.
They are very clean and comfortable. The ambiance is peaceful,
secluded, rustic and friendly. Our guests say it is one of the most
enjoyable places to stay in South Dakota. Our ranch’s location allows our
guests to travel through out the Black Hills and Badlands area while
using the ranch as a centrally located headquarters.
We can assist
you with local travel plans and offer suggestions that will make your vacation
full of special memories.
Please note:
- There are no
telephones, swimming pools or video arcades.
- However, cell
phone reception is usually very good.
- There is
satellite Direct TV with a DVD player.
- There is a grocery store and gas station in Hermosa for all incidentals.
- Stargazing is
excellent.
- Both Bunk Houses are Non-Smoking.
Is there running
water?
Yes, both bunk
houses have modern indoor running water, hot showers and indoor
plumbing.
Are the bunk
houses air conditioned?
The Big Bunk
House has an air conditioner unit, four ceiling fans and cross ventilation that cools it
nicely in the evening. The Original Bunk house has an air
conditioner unit and additional fans are available for both units.
Do the bunk
houses have heat?
Yes, they have
electric heat .
What shall I
wear?
Summer days are
generally cooler in the hills with temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s,
while nights can get as low as the 40’s, so it is good to bring
sweatshirts and jeans as well as your summer clothes. Be sure to bring
comfortable shoes for hiking and walking in the Hills.
Is there Maid
Service or Breakfast?
Please
understand you are renting a house for your stay here. We are not a
bed and breakfast or a hotel. We do not provide daily maid service
or breakfast
for the Bunk Houses. We hope you will enjoy your privacy and maintain
a comfortable living environment during your stay. Each bunk house has
a full kitchen for your meals or in Hermosa there is a steak house,
a sandwich/deli shop and a pizza place. Rapid City, Keystone and Hill City are all within
a short drive of the Ranch with many choices for dining out.
Do
you have a pool?
No, but bring your suits to enjoy a sunny day at one of the area
lakes. Some of the lakes offer pontoon boats and fishing boats or
paddle boats and canoes for rent. There is a waterslide park near Mt.
Rushmore at Keystone as well as the naturally heated indoor and
outdoor pools at Hot Springs’ Evans Plunge. Rapid City has an indoor
water play area called Watiki.

We rent to only
responsible adults who would care and appreciate this lodging as we
do. Children are welcome if they are well behaved and under adult
supervision. Please support our non-drinking, non-smoking
atmosphere.
Payment Policy
A deposit of 50%
is required within 7 days of booking. Final payment is due 14 days
prior to arrival at the Ranch. A credit card is required and will be charged in
the event damages are incurred during your stay. All rates are subject
to change without notice and are subject to South Dakota 5% state
tax.
Deposits must be
mailed in the form of a personal/business check or money order for
advance reservations. On receipt of your deposit a confirmation will be
emailed to you.
The balance of your payment is due 14 before your arrival in the form
of check or
money order.
For the annual
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, please call for effective dates, deposit,
cancellation policies and rental agreement.
Cancellation Policy
We have a 3 month cancellation policy, less 10%. Cancellations made
within the 90 days before your arrival are
refunded only as cancellations are filled, less 10%. In situations
where reservations must be cancelled, we encourage you to reschedule
your visit, rather that cancel completely. There is no charge for
rescheduling.
Liability Policy
UX Ranch cannot
assume any responsibility for accidents whether caused by you, horses,
equipment, or other persons while at the UX Ranch. You ride and travel
at your own risk. Equine activities involve inherent risks. You will
receive a waiver of liability form upon your arrival. Please read it
carefully. You are agreeing in advance that UX Ranch or any of its
agents, guides or other guests shall not and will not be held liable
or responsible for death, personal injury, loss or damage of any
nature to you or minors in your care, including personal property.
South Dakota state law provides that no person, corporation or
partnership is liable for personal injuries to or for the death of a
rider (or other participant) that may occur as a result of the
behavior of equine animals while engaged in any equine activity and
that the rider (or other participant) agrees to engage in the equine
activity at his/her own risk. UX Ranch insist that you carry your own
health, accident or liability insurance and you agree in writing to
assume responsibility for any injuries you may incur while
participating in any ranch or riding activity.
