Important Information for Horse Campers

Feed & Hay – Health Papers – Brand Inspection – Dogs

Feed & Hay:

  • Your hay does not have to be weed free at our ranch

  • But when traveling to, through or camping in Custer Sate Park, Wyoming,
Montana and Colorado it is required to be certified weed free.

  • Please, bring your own feed and hay

  • And your own water buckets

  • As well as extension water hoses

  • Make sure to bring salt and mineral blocks for each horse

Health Papers:
For the safety of all horses and the required brand inspection, please bring for each out-of-state horse a:

  • Current (30 days) health certificate, stating that your animals have no obvious infections and illnesses

  • Current Coggins test

  • Proof of ownership for the brand inspection.  The Coggins test counts as such, if the owner is traveling with the horse.

Brand Inspection:
The “Livestock Ownership Inspection” or so called Brand Inspection is required for all out of state animals before you leave the West River ownership inspection area, which we are located in.  This requirement applies whether or not the horse is branded and is actually an ownership inspection.

Important if going West from here:
Annual Horse Transportation Permit is required for SD East River animals. Available from East River County Agents only.

For further information, please call the SD Stockgrowers Association in Rapid City.
Telephone: 605-343-2660, 1-800-529-2333

South Dakota horses (within Black Hills brand inspection area) are required to have a current health certificate – max 30 days old.

Dogs:
Dogs must stay on a leash in camp at all times. There are usually several dogs in camp at the same time. If you do not want to keep your dog tied, please leave them at home.

Please bring for your dogs a current health certificate, stating that your animals have no obvious infections or illnesses. All dogs should be current on their rabies vaccination.
